The
tourism industry generates, in the archipelago, annual spin-offs
of more than 25 million dollars and more than 100 small businesses
directly depend on it. Every year between June 15th and September
15th, around 30 000 visitors spend an average of 7 days in the
Iles de la Madeleine.
This industry is generally
considered to be in good health, thanks to its well determined
product so advantageously developed.
However, the tourist season
is so short and extending it is still a big challenge for the
local industry.
Efforts are now being made
to evaluate the feasibility and to put in place a high and a
low tourist season, by among others, different rates according
to the period, for transportation and lodging.
